An unwelcome visitor

Remember when I said I would post today if anything interesting happened? Remember how I said it only had to be interesting to ME? Consider yourself warned.
Today I was minding my own business, taking a shower, when I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I saw this: I quickly jumped out of the shower (btw, not because I am AFRAID of lizards, but because it startled me...and I really didn't want it to crawl on me)

Yes, under a cup. I am debating whether to wait until Edgar gets home and let him take care of it, or to just suck it up and take care of it myself.

I wonder if I could slip a spatula under that cup...

I've never been more tempted to invite Cassidy & Elphaba over...but then I would have cats in the house...I'd rather have lizards.

Yesterday, today, and tomorrow

Yesterday we spent at Krista & Eliott's house celebrating our fathers. We ate way too much food, including WAY too much cake and ice cream, and generally had a great time :) I felt like I barely even took care of Eli all day. Either Abuelo was holding him...

...or Abuela. (Edgar helped a lot too) I was helping Krista get dinner ready, so Eli was passed on to other willing arms.

I do think Eli is about to cut 2 more teeth, so he was a bit more fussy than normal yesterday. He would not take a good nap. He usually sleeps for 45 min around 10:30 and then 2 hours at 2:00, but neither nap happened as it should...I think he napped 45 minutes TOTAL all day. He was pretty tired by the end of the day. He did sleep until 9 this morning, though...but then only took 1 nap for an hour today...he's GOT to sleep more during the day-for his sake and mine :)

Krista got him to stand up at the couch-I didn't even know he could do that! He looks so old when he's standing up! I can't believe that will be an every day sight soon!

Today was nothing special. I spent part of the day making some baby food for Eli since he was almost out. I only made carrots and peaches, so I didn't get nearly as much done as I had hoped, but oh well. I am going to make sweet potatoes tomorrow. Yahoo.

I did pick my first tomato today. I was very excited when I started noticing the tomatoes turning red last week. One was finally ready today! I went outside and took a picture, but didn't pick it right then, because I wanted to call dad to make sure a tomato being red was reason enough to pick it. Dad said go for it, so I went out this afternoon...

...and was completely frustrated that my once perfect tomato had been pecked at by birds...along with a few other tomatoes that were almost ripe. I was so upset!

I was also a little unimpressed with the size of my 'Big Beef Tomatoes'...I called dad back up to get advice as to how to protect future tomatoes from being bird food, and hopefully I will get some sort of net or cage to cover it. Until then I will be watching my plants vigilantly.

In other unrelated, unimportant news of my day, I tried a new recipe. I have to say, I LOVE the Cooking Light magazine. Edgar got me a subscription a little over a year ago, and I have loved every recipe I have tried from it. I got this recipe from it-Pizza Bianca with Arugula, Bacon and Mushrooms. I really liked it (though Edgar wasn't much of a fan. He liked the crust, and the fact that it didn't have a red sauce on it, but didn't like the mushrooms and onions so much. I might have to play around with it to make it work for him :) Fun!) I thought it was such a pretty pizza too, and couldn't resist taking a picture.

As for tomorrow...who knows :) I'm sure if anything even remotely interesting happens, it will be posted here. (And when I say interesting, I am implying that it is interesting to me.)

My sewing project

Krista and I have been getting together on Fridays for the last few weeks to sew. It is a really fun time to hang out, chat, and work on some sewing projects we've had stored in the closet for a while :) This past Friday I made a shopping cart cover for Eli to sit in when I go to the grocery store. I was getting pretty sick of carrying him around in the Baby Bjorn-he's getting heavy! I wasn't sure if he was ready to sit in the cart or not, but Edgar and I headed to the store tonight and tried it out. It worked great! Eli sat up in it so well-he's probably been ready to do that for a while :) I added some loops to the pattern so that I could attach some toys to it for Eli to play with, and they kept him occupied for the quick trip.

The cover was fairly frustrating to make...I am not very good at reading patterns apparently...To begin with, I cut the fabric 'backwards'...the part where he is sitting was suppose to be gray, and the part over the handle was suppose to be the baseballs. I was pretty mad when I realized I had cut it out wrong, but went ahead with it anyway. I kept screwing things up, but it finally came out right. Hopefully I will never have to make another one...unless someone asks me to, and then I probably will :) I made notes in the pattern so I won't make the same mistakes again, so I am counting on it not being as hard next time.

After we got home from the store I made a cake. Now I know, I know, Father's Day was last week, but we are going to celebrate tomorrow, so I made a cake. I'm not completely sure why I posted this picture-it's a pretty simple cake...and I'm terrible at writing on cakes, but oh well. That's what I did tonight, so I thought I'd share.

After many weeks of being stuck on his belly, Eli can finally roll both ways! This isn't the greatest video-he kind of rolls into the couch...but after holding the camera yesterday for 45 minutes trying to catch him, I decided I would take what I could get!

Eli also enjoys playing peek-a-boo. He's so much fun!

Happy Father's Day...ummm...a little late...

Happy Father's day! Okay, so I realize I am way late on this post...I've been rather busy the last few days, and am finally getting to it :) We had a great Father's day. I asked Edgar what he wanted to do, and he said he wanted to go over to his Grandfather's house for lunch and be with his family. His dad was going to be there too, so it was perfect. Because Krista and Eliud were out of town, we have plans to get together with the whole family this coming Sunday to celebrate our dads as a family :) I got up at 5 and turned the crock pot on (then promptly went back to bed until 7), then we went to church, came home, packed the car with all the food, and started driving to Abuelo's. Then, this happened... This is Edgar saying 'Are you really taking my picture changing a tire?!' Of course I am! Why else do I carry my camera with me everywhere I go?

Side note...notice Eli's new car seat? After much frustration, we finally have it installed. We had to put it in the middle, which makes it a little harder to get him in and out, but I am getting used to it. He seems to really like it, and is often heard giggling at himself in the mirror. We have plans to keep him in it until the recommended 35 lbs...but we'll see...
We finally arrived at Abuelo's house, and had a nice surprise. Mom had just arrived back from her missions trip to Peru that morning, but we didn't expect to see her-we figured she would be exhausted, and sleeping. But she was there! We were so excited to see her and hear some of her stories from her trip.

Side note #2...she was talking to Edgar's grandfather, and telling him a story. I have VERY limited understanding of spanish. VERY limited...and I was trying to get the jist of the story she was telling. My eyes kept getting wider as she was very obviously talking about a head being choped off. What kind of missions trip was this?! To my relief (sort of...) she was just talking about an aligator they killed while aligator hunting. Wait a second...ALIGATOR HUNTING?!

We ate lunch together, and then Eric & Leilani showed up too. Leilani and I talked quite a bit about her baby-she's doing really well (she's pregnant). I'm quite impressed with how much exercise she is doing... :)

We got back home and hung out as a family for the rest of the evening. Here's the happy daddy :)

Hopefully Edgar had a good Father's day. He CERTAINLY deserves it! He's a great dad, and wonderful husband. I love how he plays with Eli. As soon as he gets home from work he's right there on the floor with Eli playing with him until bedtime. I am amazed at how much energy he (usually...) has after a LONG day at work and how willing he is to help me out. I couldn't ask for more!

A Birthday Party!

On Saturday we headed over to Winter Haven to go to Landon's birthday party. After much discussion, I think we decided it's Eli's 3rd cousin? (Landon's mom is Edgar's first cousin, so Landon would be Edgar's 2nd cousin, making Eli and Landon 3rd? If anyone knows the real answer to this, let me know...)
Uncle Bill asked to hold Eli, and Eli stayed there for quite a while. I think Uncle Bill (Edgar's uncle) has the magic touch. I'm pretty sure Eli would have stayed there all day...as long as that balloon wasn't far away :)

I was pretty amazed at how much he ate-and he didn't even get sick! Well, at least not while we were there...

I can't believe that soon we'll be having a party for Eli! Crazy...

We had such a nice time being with family that we don't get to see very often. I'm sure some day Landon and Eli will be playing together :)

Play date

On Thursday we headed over to Christine's to swim in her pool with a bunch of friends from church. We had a great time eating, hanging out, swiming, and eating some more :) This was actually Eli before we went. I didn't feel like getting him dressed, only to change him into his bathing suit, so he was naked all morning :) He's been sleeping more and more on his belly. So cute!

Eli and I got there a little late, but we were actually the first to arrive :) Here he is, playing with Olivia and Elizabeth.

It gets tiring being on your belly, holding your head up! Good thing Olivia is there to pat his head and tell him it will be okay...

I got Eli all sunscreaned up (is that a word?), and managed to spike his hair. It's getting so long!

A little housekeeping

One of the reasons I started this blog was to keep track of some of the things Eli has done...and things that our future children (NO! I'm not pregnant!) will do. I have been terrible about writing things in Eli's baby book (I think I wrote something in his 1 month entry...) and have been storing things in my mind that I need to write down...but this seems to be the only area that I actually write things. SO, this might be a boring blog for anyone else to read, but it's one I want to have so I can look back :)

Swimming fun

On Saturday we headed over to Ryan and Jennifer's pool to try out Eli's pool toy. Renae had posted some pictures with Keira in one like this, and I was determined to get one...until Krista told me we already had one...she had let us borrow it along with every baby thing we would ever need :) I just didn't realize it was in Eli's closet...
Eli didn't really like it very much to begin with...but Edgar and I kept him in it and after about 10 minutes realized how much fun it really was. Eli realized that it is quite fun to splash the water, and proceeded to do that for the next half hour ;)

Sitting Tall

Eli can sit. I know I've posted before that he can sit, but he's getting so much better at it. Renae suggested that I put the boppy seat around him to help support him a bit, and break his fall if he does fall, and that seems to help...

..and he does fall...

..and then realizes it's kinda fun to be semi-upside down. He'll hang out there for a bit, and realize he's stuck...and then let me know he's stuck.

Then we discovered as long as he has something to play with in his hands, he really does pretty good sitting up without support.

Although daddy's close by to make sure he doesn't fall and knock his head on the floor. :)

He is quite pleased with himself!

Actually, the day I discovered that he could sit on his own was Friday when I took him to get his picture taken. I got a coupon for a free 8x10 from the Picture People, so we went and got a free shot :) This is actually a picture of the picture we got. Anyway, when I went in the photographer asked how old he was, and if he could sit on his own. I said 'well...he can, for about a second...' So she took some shots on his belly-very cute :) Then she had me sit him up-and he sat on his own for about 10 minutes! I couldn't believe it! I kept saying 'he couldn't do that yesterday!'

Amazing what they learn in their sleep...

is seven months old today :)

This and that

Much to Jenny's distaste, I am going to put several events into one blog :) I just haven't gotten around to the daily entry... The other day Edgar was playing with Eli, and every time Edgar would stick out his tongue, Eli would copy him. It was pretty funny. Of course, as soon as I got the camera out he stopped...this is as close as I could get :)

On Saturday we went over to the Stalter's to hang out. We had a really nice time with them just talking and catching up. Near the end of the evening we put Eli in Jessie's bean bag chair, and he loved it. He laid there for about a half hour just hangin' out. He didn't even seem to mind that it was purple! :)

Eli has a new love...Ryan and Jennifer got him a singing dog for Christmas, and he just now has discovered it. He really likes playing with it, and gets really mad when it goes away. He can sit in the corner of the couch and play with it for quite some time.

Sunday the family got together. We wanted to get together with mom before she left on her missions trip. We ate, hung out, and prayed for mom as a family. It was a very nice afternoon-always good to be with family!

Katie got to feed Eli for the first time. She did really good! She only stuck the spoon too far in his mouth once :) She would give him a bite, and then I would take the spoon and feed him for a bit...then she would say that she wanted to feed 'baby Eli' (how she always refers to Eli) and would take another turn. Pretty cute.

***This is just an edit of a previous post :) *** Eli has started sitting really well on the couch, which is kinda fun-he can sit with me on the couch after he eats. He just hangs out and looks around for a little while. I think he's starting to get tired of being on his back, and seems to really enjoy sitting. He's getting better and better at sitting on his own, though I have to sit right near him because he falls over pretty quickly.

He's really been into playing with books the past few days. He bypasses all of his toys and goes right for the books (though often he is looking at them upside down...) I think he likes to play with the pages.

He's napping right now, and I should be doing something productive...

A trip to IKEA

Today Christine and I loaded up the kids and headed to the new IKEA in town. It opened a few weeks ago, and we've both been wanting to get over there. We walked around for a little while and then got some lunch. It's so nice that Eli can sit in restaurant high chairs now-I have a place to put him while I eat! He and Olivia played with their toys while Christine and I ate.

I took these pictures with my phone-Christine told me that you can take a picture with your phone and then send it to your e-mail-just type in your e-mail address instead of a cell phone number. I was pretty excited! Sometimes I don't have my camera, so now I know I can take pictures with my phone and still use them :) The kids were so good. Christine and I both carried them in the baby bjorn which took a toll on our backs, but the kids liked it.

IKEA is massive-we walked around for about 2 hours just skimming over things. I bought a few things-mostly for Eli. There was a cute cloth book for him, and a couple of toys. I got him a little puppet-he loves puppets! I've been wanting to get him one. The one I got him is pretty simple-the mouth doesn't move or anything. He played with it while we walked around, so I had to buy it...I also got a new toilet bowl brush and thing for the kitchen.

It was very fun, and quite tiring. The kids were out by the time we left the parking lot. Eli is still asleep, and hopefully will be for a bit longer. I've been sitting here updating blogs since we got home, and I probably should get something else done...or I could take a nap...
